Book Review: MY VISION BY SHEIKH MOHAMMED BIN RASHID AL MAKTOUM.

“With each day in Africa, a gazelle wakes up knowing he must outrun the fastest lion or starve. It is no different for the human race. Whether you consider yourself a gazelle or a lion, you simply have to run faster than others to survive.”

The above words belong to the author of the book: My Vision. His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Dubai – who is a soulful poet with several published poetry books.

My Vision has the elements and essence of the past, present and future – it is in certain manners a chronicle providing historical access. The author shares what he observed while growing up. The author continues in following the footsteps of his own worthy father – the late Sheikh Rashid bin Maktoum. Similarly, he inherited a rank which empowered him to be in the gracious company of the late Sheikh Zayad Al Nahyan.

The book looks at the past with one eye, and the future with the other. To quote these as the exact words of the author – The Vision will catch any reader’s eye! The book describes the “model” on which the success of UAE is based. From swift modernization to rooted values to the order of clemency and leadership – the royal statesman discusses the obstacles that come in a nation’s chapters: the challenges that are a part of any human being’s life.

The author remains unrestricted… he expands his inner mind to give views on winning and losing; chances which should never be lost. Again, to quote the author, who states: we are not interested in counting mistakes but in counting achievements.

Hinting at the strife and unrest in regions around the UAE, in another quote, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum expresses: we in the Arab world cannot realize our ambitions, complete huge projects and generate millions of job opportunities if individuals and communities are subdued this way. When this happens, the community will simply not cooperate and will not be creative. This is the end of a leadership based on fear, and its side effects go even deeper and further.
