At the Yogoda Satsanga Sakha Ashram – Noida (India)

For Kamal Nayan Bakshi, former Ambassador of  India to Italy & other countries, inner fulfillment comes to him by teaching the less privileged children of our society.  On a regular basis, he coaches about 35-40 children from an urban village and a slum called Khoda.  The children come for their classes to the Yogoda Sastang Sakha Ashram situated in Noida-India.  The children range from 14 to 17 years – it is a mixed batch of boys and girls, though the majority are girls.

Kamal ji tells me, ‘Almost all teachers are volunteer-devotees, and I am one among them.  We try to help the kids by teaching them most of the subjects.  We have computer training and Spoken English classes, as well’.

It came to me as a pleasant surprise when I learnt that the children got very encouraging results from their last Board Examination.  The highest score was 79.5%, the lowest score was 61.5%.  It was a cent percent result.  Everybody passed!

The classes are held in old temporary structures turned into classrooms.  The subjects in which the children are coached by the Ashram’s devotees are: English, Maths, Chemistry, Physics, Bio, Social Studies, Hindi, Commerce.

Kamal ji concludes with a happy note, ‘We are now helping those who have passed class 12 to get admission into professional courses like nursing and teaching’.
