In The Doorway
I keep my head down.
I keep my head high.
I see a stinging shot –
Coming from across:
Naming and shaming my fate.
It’s quite a view.
I see myself erased.
From the first look
Of a fragile past,
Stalking me wherever I go –
Pain wraps me around its veil.
That is like dying without end,
When the whole world is gay.
This is a ritual – I am alone.
This time, unlike other times,
I have no more tears
To trade with the situation.
The night-time shadows are around me.
Flames hold sway everywhere.
I am burning,
Burning, alone.
I keep my head down.
I keep my head high.
I see a stinging shot –
Coming from across:
Naming and shaming my fate.
It’s quite a view.
I see myself erased.
