The Outside Factors

Below, where I stand
the meadows are brilliant,
scented and lush;
my foot precise and certain
on the well-lit flowery grounds.

Yet when I gaze up
to look at the sun yonder;

inviting notes of my actions
to blend with its virtuous rays.

Instead, grimacing black and grey
and purple-faced clouds
look down upon me;
cowering my eager will,
and smothering my budding hopes...!
