The Union Cabinet on Thursday cleared the draft Motor Vehicle (Amendment) Bill that proposes hefty fines for traffic violations. It is likely to be introduced in the budget session of parliament. Once passed, the amended law will be applicable to all states (in India).
Driving drunk, jumping the signal, speeding and using mobile phones behind the wheel will attract higher fines and jail terms under new rules approved by the Union Cabinet on Thursday.
