My Guru Paramahansa Yogananda stressed the need for a balanced life of activity and meditation. “When you work for God, not self,” he said, “It is just as good as meditation. Then work helps your meditation and meditation helps your work. You need the balance. With meditation only, you become lazy. With activity only, the mind becomes worldly and you forget God.”
To overcome stagnancy and ignorance within us, Paramahansa Yogananda said, “You cannot rid of darkness by beating it with a stick. Instead turn on the light.”
