Did You Know?

Did you know that Mahatma Gandhi’s father Karamchand Gandhi’s (1822-1885) fourth wife, Putlibai, was Gandhiji’s mother?  The first three wives of Mahatma Gandhi’s father had apparently died in childbirth.


Did you know that the Indian classics, particularly, the stories of Shravana and Maharaja Harishchandra had a remarkable influence on Mahatma Gandhi?  In his personal memoirs, he writes, ‘I must have acted Harishchandra to myself many times.’


Did you know that in May 1883, the 13-year-old Mohandas Gandhi was married to 14-year-old Kasturbai Makhanji in an arranged child marriage?


Did you know, Mahatma Gandhi remained an average student and he passed the matriculation examination (10th class) with some difficulty?
